Hubble 3-D

Hubble 3-D – Playing at an IMAX theater in a science center or planetarium near you, Hubble 3-D is the story of the heroic efforts by NASA shuttle astronauts to fix the amazing telescope in space.  Calling Hubble just a telescope is like calling Gone With the Wind just a movie.  It is the most advanced eye in the sky ever made.  Taking more than five years to build, Hubble was an initial disappointment due to a curved lens, producing pictures of deep space that only rivaled ground telescopes.  But through repairs conducted by multiple shuttle crews, it now has literally opened up a universe astronomers could only dream about.   Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble 3-D features stunning photography while lingering a bit too long on the astronauts.  The star here should have been the telescope and its photographs but I understand the desire by NASA to feature its astronauts as its struggles for continued enormous amounts of funding from the American people.  It’s hard to believe that IMAX cameras were taken aboard the shuttles to film the repairs but they show the amazing feats of our air warriors.  I agree with basic premise of the film: one day, Hubble will be considered one of the most stunning accomplishments of the human race.
