You, Me and Dupree

You, Me and Dupree (Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon, Owen Wilson, Michael Douglas) – Why does Michael Douglas do this schlock!?  I understand why Wilson does – he’s the king of schlock, and sometimes shines in those formula pics.  Hudson is adorable, and Matt Dillon is trying to capitalize on his incredible performance in Crash.  With this endearing cast, you would think that this movie had a chance to be (1) funny, (2) intriguing, (3) insightful, (4) none of the above.  You are right; it’s Door #4.  Wilson moves in with best friend and newlyweds Dillon and Douglas.  Mr. Zeta Jones plays Hudson’s dad, who doesn’t want to let go of precious daughter, even after the wedding.  The rest is part merry mix-up, part scatological joke, part buddy flick.  Actually, it’s just bad.  Hudson has to find a vehicle to launch her into the new Meg Ryan, and this isn’t it.  Her mother had Foul Play and Private Benjamin among others and reached a level that Kate can only dream of.  And she may be running out of time.  Anyway, don’t see this unless it’s for free.
