School for Scoundrels

School for Scoundrels (Billy Bob Thornton, Mark Heder) — For such a good actor, Billy Bob Thornton takes some bad parts.  And this is one of them.  This inane movie attempts to teach a lesson about perseverance and competitiveness, but it just makes a mess out of them both. Thornton plays a night instructor in a course for losers who lack confidence.  Mark Heder plays the “student” who becomes the star of the class, which makes him the rival of his teacher.  Somehow, they compete for the same woman (imagine how impossible that is!).  The students conspire with both teacher and compadre at various times.   And, of course, inevitably, the loser wins, the teacher becomes the student, and the audience leaves wondering how better they could have spent their money.
