An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power (Al Gore) – Former Vice President Al Gore is the face of the climate change movement for better or worse.  The former almost-President took his lifelong advocacy for action to stop global warming on the road following his 2000 election loss.  In the original documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, he presented both his slide show as well as stunning video footage of the global crisis confronting the Earth.  That was 10 years ago.

A decade later, the situation has gotten both better and worse.  Advances in solar, wind and alternative energy have exceeded expectations both in the U.S. and around the world.  The climate accord signed by almost every country in Paris, though far from perfect, represents a major advance in establishing a global consensus about climate change.  On the other hand, the climate deniers (including Donald Trump), supported by “Big Oil” and electric/gas utilities, have dug in and invented propaganda and truly fake news to cast doubt with the uninformed.

Whether there was a need for a second documentary is arguable.  That there is a need to motivate the public to tackle the problems arising from climate change is undeniable.  While it is worthwhile to understand what happened in Paris and what has transpired in the last 10 years, you may find it more worthwhile to make a donation to the cause rather than see the sequel, which is a bit preachy and a little too ego-driven for my taste.

More power to Gore and his followers to tackle this increasingly dire problem.
