Star Trek Beyond

My shortest review ever …

Star Trek Beyond (Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, Simon Pegg) – Same old, same old (SOSO).  As it relates to the Star Trek franchise, that’s just fine with me.  The special effects and the computer graphics (CG) are fantastic.  The acting is surprisingly good, particularly Karl Urban who has Bones down cold, and Idris Elba, who plays the bad guy, Krall, with total evilness (is that a word?).  Chris Pine as the young Captain Kirk boasts the William Shatner eye gleam.  And Zachary Quinto, as the young and emotion-laden Spock, would have made Leonard Nimoy proud.  Simon Pegg is wonderful again as Scotty but he is also the so-writer of the movie.

At this point in my reviews, I always summarize the plot and avoid spoilers.  Not this time.  The Enterprise is traversing the universe; something bad happens; the Enterprise comes to the rescue; a formidable bad guy/gal/alien appears to be winning; the Enterprise prevails.  That’s the story.  It works. See the movie.  Enjoy!
