Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly) – Well, it’s just plain silly.  But isn’t that what we have some to expect from Will Ferrell?  Isn’t that why we go to see his movies? What is most clear is just how much fun the cast had doing this movie. That makes it all the more enjoyable for the viewer.  If you’re looking for a message, you barely get it (yes, the absent father, played way out of character by Gary Cole is redeemed).  But if you’re one of the millions who have fallen in love with NASCAR (I can’t figure this out since the major criterion of NASCAR fans seems to be their propensity to drink a whole lot of beer), you will enjoy the photography and the fantastic, if improbable, crashes.  The movie sinks to predictable lows, like the gay French Formula One star (played by Sacha Baron Cohen, an actor with a cult following and two upcoming movies featuring his characters Borat and Ali G from HBO’s Da Ali G Show) and two obnoxious, unstructured kids.  But you’ll walk out with a smile on your face and the wonderment of what drek (you might need to ask someone what that means) Will will will himself into next.
