Prairie Home Companion

Prairie Home Companion (Garrison Keillor, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Kline, Virginia Madsen, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, Tommy Lee Jones, Lindsay Lohan, Maya Rudolph) — Fans of the long-running public radio weekend staple will love this movie version of Keillor’s made-up community in his native Minnesota.  Complete with all of the predictable stylings of director Robert Altman, this home-spun fun might be just as film version of radio broadcast, but it’s really more.  It tells a few human dramas that easily surpass the daily lives of the musical troupe, that includes many of Keillor’s radio regulars.  The acting is superb, led by the comedic Kevin Kline we can’t get enough of, the Meryl Streep who is so much the best actor in the movie she even tries the Minnesota accent, and Virginia Madsen, who gives comfort to the soon-to-be deceased as “The Dangerous Woman.”  Even for those of you who never listen to Keillor’s broadcast will enjoy the pacing and the country music (I never thought I’d say that in my whole life), if not the familiarity of the characters.
