Ratatouille — Named for the “peasant dish” and a play on words for the “stars” of our movie, the rats, Ratatouille is a delightful tale (or is that “tail”). It takes a lot to get me to an animated movie (even bribery fails) but I watched anyway. This Pixar offering, set in Paris, features Remy the Rat (the voice of Patton Oswalt), a would-be fan of a great five-star chef, Auguste Gusteau (the voice of Brad Garrett). Unlike his family of rats, he is fascinated by more than infestation and random gluttony. And he seems to have a knack for cooking, believing the words of the chef’s book, “Anyone Can Cook.” After the chef dies due his restaurant losing its five-star rating due to a bad revue, Remy is adopted by the chef’s spirit. The rest is silly and fun as the rat uses a poor young man, hired as a garbage boy, to be his instrument to deliver his culinary masterpieces. If you’re looking for a deeper message, it’s “follow your dreams” or “don’t judge a book by its cover” or “even a rat can cook.”
