George & Julia sell Tickets to Paradise

Boys and girls, put your sandals and flowered shirts/blouses back on and head to the theater.

Ticket to Paradise couples old friends and frequent collaborators, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, in a romantic comedy. That’s reason enough to spend the money and return to the theater.

I can hear the pitch to them now: “You both have been on hiatus during COVID. I have this romantic comedy script about a wickedly divorced couple whose daughter falls in love on a vacation. So they fly off to Bali to stop her from getting married and wind up falling back in love after a series of romps and stomps. All you have to do is turn on the charm. We’ll fly you and your families to a beach resort in Australia, pay you a fortune, and give you all you want to drink.”

If you’re looking for a great movie or something more than a rom-com piggybacked on a rom-com (two for the price of one), forget it! We all need a comedy to distract us from the depressing news these days, and this is it!

Ol Parker, who directed the second terrible, beach-intensive Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again film, wrote and directed this beach-intensive, lighthearted flick. The difference? This one has Julia & George, the best couple to hit the beach since Annette Funicello & Frankie Avalon.
We went to a $8.50 matinee and it was well worth the cost to drag me away from CNN and MSNBC.
