Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (Frances McDormand, Amy Adams) – A delightful romp in the tradition of the old comedies of the 1950s, Miss Pettigrew will charm you as surely as it will entertain you.  Oscar winner Frances McDormand (Fargo) is the oft-fired nanny who just has to say what she thinks.  She is spoiled goods when she steals the lead that she thinks is a nanny job from her employment agency and heads over to see aspiring actress/singer Delysia Lafosse, played by Oscar nominee Amy Adams (Junebug, Enchanted, Charlie Wilson’s War).  Delicious Delysia is juggling three relationships in her attempt to remain a kept woman and a future star of stage.  She lives with Nick (Mark Strong), a rich club owner.  She is sleeping with Phil Goldman (Tom Payne) to land the lead in his new musical.  And she is truly in love with Michael, a piano player and singer with whom she used to perform, but offers her neither riches nor fame.  Miss Pettigrew walks right into the middle of the juggling act and helps Delysia with her delicate dilemma.  In the meantime, Plain Pettigrew gets a make-over, new clothes, and gets to meet the crème de la crème, including famous lingerie designer, Joe, played by the exceptional Ciaran Hinds (Munich, There Will be Blood).  In the greatest “Day” of her life, she sees all and gets what she never expected.  This movie will likely appear more to women than men, but it’s a wonderful time for everyone.
