Basic Instinct II

Basic Instinct II (Sharon Stone) – The original was an original, talked about by everyone, starring Michael Douglas and Jean Tripplehorn and introducing Sharon Stone in all her glory.  It was a pure sensual thriller with a haunting story line, plenty of sex, and a mind thriller pitting a writer and troubled cop.  The sequel never should have been made since the future of Catherine Tramell is best left to the imagination.  This film could have been far worse and more exploitive than it is.  This one could have been really bad, but I found it reasonably entertaining, if not anywhere up to the standards of the first.  Regardless of how much “work” Stone may or may not have had, she looks great for a woman in her mid-40s and, after all, isn’t that the reason anyone would really go to the movie?  All right, maybe you want to see if she can outfox the cops again and whether she kills her way to the top.  No matter what, this film is better than the critics thought, but not worth more than a rental.
